Wedding Story: Stephen & Sarah Jackson

Sarah and Stephen had a vision for their wedding.

Their favorite time of year is Christmas, so they knew they wanted to get married in December. Having the wedding in southern Anne Arundel County, where they both grew up, was also very important to them. At the time, Stephen’s mom was the director of operations at Herrington on the Bay, the full-service wedding catering company owned by Anna Chaney, who also owns Honey’s Harvest Farm, so it made sense to plan their special day with Herrington’s team of hospitality experts. Sarah recalls, “From the beginning, I felt like everyone [at Herrington] was on board in wanting to fulfill our vision … The way people catered to us and treated us and just wanted it to truly be our perfect day and exactly what we wanted was incredible.”

Sarah envisioned a barn wedding, and Herrington didn’t have a barn venue at the time. However, Stephen’s mom remembered that Anna had an old tobacco barn on her property. The catch? It was being used for hay bales and storage and desperately needed remodeling.

Anna was was excited to transform the old barn into an event space. Stephen says, “I think Anna definitely had this vision. She’s a visionary. And then we just gave her the ability to invest in the space.”

About the wedding itself, Sarah elaborated, “We love Christmastime and it falls around our original dating anniversary. That was a big inspiration behind the vision. And we also really wanted it to feel local, which I think is so on brand for Honey’s as it is now. We really wanted it to feel like a Southern Maryland wedding. We wanted to find a way to meld the time that we love with the place we love, and I feel like Herrington was the only place that would have understood that and been able to deliver it in the way that we wanted it too. It was just the most beautiful wedding. There was nothing I would change. Everything about it was absolutely perfect.”

Stephen and Sarah still frequent Honey’s Harvest Farm, shopping at the Sunday Markets with their kids. Stephen says, “This is going to sound real cheesy, but it does feel kind of like there’s a piece of us there. Before, there was nothing, and now Anna’s turned it into this booming farmers market with all these local vendors. And then we get to walk through it knowing that we were there for that special time.”

Sarah adds, “To see Honey’s grow and evolve in a way that still feels so true to its roots and what it was to us makes me super excited and happy and makes me want to be there more.
